PROFESSIONAL BAREFOOT TRIMMING CERTIFICATION

COURSE LENGTH: 6 WEEKS
The professional-level barefoot trimming course offers participants an in-depth examination of horse anatomy as it pertains to achieving proper balance in all breeds and disciplines. Students will be instructed on how to adjust a horse's gait influenced by incorrect leg and hoof conformation or past inadequate trimming procedures, as well as how to identify, prevent, and address lameness issues. Additionally, participants will learn techniques for handling difficult horses, gain insight into basic horse psychology, receive guidance on establishing their own business, attend business strategy lectures, engage in classroom instruction, and participate in extensive live trimming practice.
EQUINE OWNERS /APPRENTICE I CERTIFICATION

COURSE LENGTH: 2 WEEKS
Gain knowledge on how to effectively conduct hoof care and maintenance for your individual equine companions. Instruction covers topics such as understanding hoof anatomy and conformation, identification of essential farrier tools, proper tool maintenance, and techniques for executing a basic trim and shoeing process.
JOURNEYMAN I CERTIFICATION

COURSE LENGTH: 12 WEEKS
Upon completion of this course, students will be equipped with the necessary skills to pursue a career as a professional farrier. The focus of the program, which spans six weeks, is on honing the student's techniques to a professional level. Through interaction with experienced farriers within the BWFA, participants will gain hands-on experience in utilizing an arc welder to craft corrective shoes of higher quality. Additionally, advanced techniques in shoeing for lameness, hoof repair, live shoeing, classroom instruction, and daily forging practice will be covered in depth. Lastly, students will also receive instruction on PEMF technologies.
APPRENTICE II CERTIFICATION
TUITION COST: $6,400

COURSE LENGTH: 6 WEEKS
Acquire knowledge regarding the effective practice of hoof care and maintenance for individual equine companions. Instruction will include topics such as understanding of hoof anatomy and conformation, recognition of essential farrier tools, proper maintenance of tools, and techniques for conducting a basic trim and shoeing process. These are the foundational lessons covered in the first two weeks of our courses, emphasizing the importance of safety, handling, and working with horses. Whether you are a horse owner, barn manager, or aspiring professional in the equine industry, these initial weeks are vital for grasping the underlying principles and objectives of trimming, shoeing, overall hoof care, and ensuring safety. Practical training involves shoeing live horses and mastering the art of shoe shaping. It is important to note that this course is intended solely for personal use, such as emergency shoe replacements for temporary purposes until a certified farrier can be consulted for proper care. It is always advisable to seek the assistance of a professional farrier for the best possible care of your horse.
JOURNEYMAN II CERTIFICATION

COURSE LENGTH: 18 WEEKS
You will be involved in a comprehensive examination of horse anatomy as it pertains to the proper balance and shoeing of all horse breeds and disciplines. The course will cover topics such as addressing changes in a horse's gait due to poor leg and hoof conformation or past incorrect shoeing, as well as identifying, preventing, and remedying lameness issues. Additionally, you will gain skills in handling difficult horses, understanding fundamental horse psychology, setting up your own business and shoeing equipment, participating in business strategy lectures, classroom instruction, forging techniques, and extensive practical shoeing experience. The curriculum will encompass hoof anatomy, conformation, essential farrier tools, tool maintenance, performing basic trimming and shoeing, and an overview of forge work
Classes are held Monday - Friday. (7am-3pm)
